Health and Safety (Wales) Course
Everyone is responsible for health and safety. That includes you!
This online course provides a refresher in Health and Safety for people who have done the Care Certificate or the All Wales Induction Framework (AWIF).
It is complimented by various different courses we provide that go into greater detail, for example, COSHH, Stress, Fire Safety, First Aid and Medication.

This online course has been designed specifically for Care and Support Workers working in a social care setting in Wales. It may also be useful to a wider audience of people who would like to know more about Health and Safety.

- Identify legislation relating to general health and safety in a health or social care work setting
- Describe the main points of the health and safety policies and procedures agreed with the employer
- Outline the main health and safety responsibilities of yourself, your employer and others in the work setting
- List tasks relating to health and safety that should not be carried out without special training
- Explain how to access additional support and information relating to health and safety
- Describe different types of accidents and sudden illness that may occur in your own work setting
- Explain why it is important to assess the health and safety risks posed by particular work settings, situations or activities
- Describe how and when to report health and safety risks that they have identified
- Identify key pieces of legislation that relate to moving and assisting
- List tasks relating to moving and assisting that you are not allowed to carry out unless you are competent
- Demonstrate how to move and assist people and objects safely, maintaining the individual's dignity, and in line with legislation and agreed ways of working
- List the different types of accidents and sudden illness that may occur in the course of your work
- Describe the procedures to be followed if an accident or sudden illness should occur
- List the emergency first aid actions you are and are not allowed to carry out
- Describe the agreed ways of working in relation to medication
- Describe the agreed ways of working in relation to healthcare tasks
- List the tasks relating to medication and health care procedures that you are not allowed to carry out until you are competent
- Describe the hazardous substances in your workplace
- Demonstrate safe practices for storing, using and disposing of hazardous substances
- Explain how to prevent fires from starting or spreading
- Describe what to do in the event of a fire
- Describe the measures that are designed to protect your own security at work, and the security of those they support
- Explain the agreed ways of working for checking the identity of anyone requesting access to premises or information
- Recognise common signs and indicators of stress in themselves and others
- Identify circumstances that tend to trigger stress in you and others
- List ways to manage stress
